Day 23 …
Have you ever had an imposter before? It’s kind of creepy. But flattering. But more creepy than flattering. Nevermind, just creepy. I was creating a new account on Facebook for something I’ve been working on and for some reason, I just couldn’t figure it out. I then decided to type in my own name in the search bar to see if it worked. What showed up was not what I thought I’d ever come to see in my lifetime. In the picture that you see above, is an attempt of a fabrication of my identity. Not only were there two profile pictures of me, I also had 35 “friends”, that I was in a “relationship with Mitchell Martins’ and that our anniversary was on June 12, 2011.
I promise you, I have never heard of this guy nor have I had a boyfriend since the beginning of June of 2010. Needless to say, I was a little disturbed. Unsure of what to do, I tweeted about it and people told me to immediately report it to Facebook which I did. Soon after, I received an email from Facebook telling me that they have shut down the account and unless this person provides evidence that this is in fact them, they will reactive it. Good lawd.
I am just completely curious as to why someone would feel the need to fabricate something like this? Are these 35 friends real? Do they know this person and how does he carry on with the lie? Anyway, if you’re out there, please listen to what I have to say. Never in your life should you feel the need to make up false stories for any reason whatsoever. Living an honest and open life is the most liberating thing you can do. As hard as it may be, it’s the best way to go about life and nobody can say anything about it. When you have things to hide, you may end up strangled in your web of lies and nothing is worse than that. Just be yourself, be cool. Either way, good choice of a profile picture.
